Betclic Ready to Re-Enter Belgium Market?

Belgium news sources have reported that French sports betting operator Betclic Everest Group (Betclic) is collaborating with the national Gambling Commission with a view of re-entering the market. The operator has had a troubled history with Belgium’s authorities who in February 2014 seized €600,000 of Betclic funds, stating that the unlicensed operator had breached gambling laws by digitally transacting with national consumers. French licensed and Malta operated Betclic has been on the national operator blacklist since 2012. Players Fined for BetClic Activities in Belgium

The Belgian Gaming Commission (Kansspelcommissie) has issued fines to 79 players who took part in gambling activities on unlicensed website BetClic.com. Operated by BetClic Everest, the website is licensed in various other countries, but has not yet acquired a licence in the Belgian market. Betclic Ends Operations in Belgium

Poker News – While the company risks becoming the first operator to ever be charged with criminal sanctions in Belgium, Betclic Everest has announced its decision to pull out from the country. Starting Monday, Betclic Everest’s four different brands including Betclic and Bet-at-Home will no longer be available to Belgium residents. The decision comes while Belgium’s Public Prosecution Office (PPO) carries an investigation on Betclic operations that could result into a €1.2m fine for the company. Belgian authorities seize €600k of Betclic Everest online gambling funds

Calvin Ayre – French online gambling operator Betclic Everest Group has prevailed in its legal challenge of Pari Mutuel Urbain’s (PMU) practice of pooling its land-based and online horseracing wagers. Betclic filed its complaint in 2012 with the French Competition Authority over the PMU.fr site’s ability to leverage PMU’s mammoth retail wagering presence, which has allowed PMU to capture 85% of the country’s horse wagering market.
