The ever-tightening restrictions being touted for Japan’s integrated resorts could see skill games including poker and sports betting banned from casino floors. According to national newspaper The Mainichi, a list of recommendations submitted to the government by the Expert Committee last month includes stringent guidelines on the types of games that should be allowed in the nation’s casinos with key features being that they can be easily controlled by the operator, can only be played at casinos and, most significantly, are based on chance. Ireland Sets Gambling Age at 18

An age limit of 18-years-old is to be put in place across all forms of gambling under new legislation in Ireland. The Irish cabinet approved the new Courts and Civil Liabilities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill that provides a modernisation of the Gaming and Lotteries Act 1956. The current law only regulates gaming at carnivals, circuses, amusement halls, arcades, funfairs, as well as lotteries and raffles at sporting and entertainment events. New York State to Pass Nevada in Gaming Tax Revenue

The US state of New York is on track to generate more casino tax revenue than Nevada in the current year, according to a new report by the American Gaming Association (AGA). In 2015, New York collected $888.4 million (€803.2 million) in tax revenue, 2.8% more than in the previous year, while Nevada generated $889.1 million, 0.87% up on the previous year. YouTuber Charged with Advertising Unlawful Gambling

Two men have appeared in court charged with offenses under the Gambling Act in what is believed to be the first prosecution involving betting on video games. Craig Douglas and Dylan Rigby, who are both from Essex, are charged with promoting a lottery and advertising unlawful gambling. Mr Douglas makes gaming videos on YouTube under the pseudonym Nepenthez. He is also charged with inviting children to gamble. The two men appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.
