Another Record Month for Iowa Sports Betting

For a third month in a row, Iowa sports betting set a record for revenue. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission data shows that over $87 million was wagered on sporting events in the state, both online and in land based sports books last month. November was the second straight month where over $80 million was bet. The handle in September was over $72 million. More than $445 million of the total money wagered in Iowa has come through online bets. Starting on January 1, bettors won’t have to register new online accounts with in-person visits to casinos. Betfred USA Launches in Iowa

Betfred USA has opened their first of four new sports books at the Grand Falls Casino in Iowa. The 3,500-square-foot facility is located in a renovated stage area adjacent to the main gaming floor. They also plan to launch an online app to accompany the physical sports book. Iowa is the first entry into the US market for the British bookmaker, with plans to open in east three more states this year, including Pennsylvania and Colorado. Iowa Sports Betting Launch August 15th

Iowa sports betting will soon be live at 18 of Iowa’s 19 land based casinos, with at least 15 of them having mobile apps! The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission met Tuesday to approve a final set of rules and regulations for sports wagering and approve license applications made by state-regulated casinos.  The rules allow for bets on professional, collegiate and international sporting events. Iowa Sports Betting Public Hearing

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission held a public hearing Thursday to discuss its proposed regulations to govern Iowa sports betting. Sources told Legal Sports Report the meeting went largely without issue, an unsurprising case given regulations that closely mirror Iowa’s recently passed sports betting law. As nearby Indiana pushes toward a September 1 launch to open before the start of the NFL season, Iowa hopes to do the same. Iowa Sports Betting Passes Senate

An Iowa sports betting bill was advanced by lawmakers through a crucial Senate committee last week, setting up a likely vote before the entire chamber in the coming days and pushing legal wagering on step closer to fruition. Following the recommendations of a three-person subcommittee meeting earlier this week, the Senate Ways and Means Committee passed SF 366, which would allow licensed riverboat casinos and racetracks to take wagers on sporting events. Iowa Supporters Hope SCOTUS Will Legalize Sports Betting

A pending decision by the U.S. Supreme Court could open the door to legalize sports betting in any state that approves it. A nonprofit organization that supports Iowa’s casinos plans to draft legislation that would legalize sports gambling in the state, should the U.S. Supreme Court rule in a way that makes that possible.
