Last week we reported that betting on sports in Louisiana needed only the governor’s signature to become law. That signature came this week. Governor John Bel Edwards actually signed a pair of bills, with the first bill regulates sports bets. The second one provides guidance for the use of the funds generated from sports bets placed in the state. The process of legalizing betting on sporting events was relatively simple and quick, as politics go. Louisiana Considers ‘Serious expansion of gaming’

Betting on sports would become legal at gambling facilities throughout Louisiana – even at bars and restaurants – under legislation approved Tuesday by a Senate committee. Senate Bill 266 would authorize gambling on sports at the Harrah’s New Orleans casino, the 15 floating casinos, the four racetrack casinos, the 200 video poker truck stop casinos and the more than 1,000 bars and restaurants with video poker machines. Louisiana Fantasy Sports Bill Threatened by Lobbyists

A Louisiana bill that would legalize daily fantasy sports has met with opposition that threatens the bill’s future, at least for this legislative session. The bill from Rep. Joseph Lopinto — HB 475 — seeks to create a carveout in state law that differentiates playing fantasy sports from gambling. Louisiana Contemplates Legalizing Online Poker

From Poker Listings Louisiana is the latest state to express interest in legalizing online poker. Rep. Mike Huval has asked the state’s house committee to perform a study that will examine the option of legalizing online poker and online gambling Louisiana. ”Louisiana has the potential to benefit economically by legalizing Internet gaming,” said Huval in his proposal statement. Huval argued that online gambling could potentially bring millions in revenue to the state and provide a safer environment for Louisiana residents to gamble.
