Supreme Court: States Can Regulate Sports Betting

We’ve got huge gambling news, as the US Supreme Court on Monday opened the door for states to regulate sports betting. The unprecedented decision will allow the expansion of legalized betting on college and professional sports, and it strikes down the federal law that forbade states from authorizing such gambling. The decision set off a rush among states to put plans in place — a New Jersey racetrack said it would offer sports betting within weeks — and could revolutionize spectator sports, with some envisioning real-time wagering at baseball stadiums on whether the next pitch will produce a hit or…

SCOTUS Sports Betting Decision Delayed

The SCOTUS sports betting decision that could repeal the federal ban on the activity hasn’t been released yet. The Supreme Court heard arguments on repealing the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) four months ago. PASPA currently prohibits sports betting in all but four American states. The hearing took place on the 4th of December 2017, and the general feeling was that the justices were siding with New Jersey in repealing the act. New Jersey was arguing that PASPA violated the constitution and prevented states from deciding for themselves if they wanted to offer sports betting. As it takes…

EU Sports Betting Operators Eye Potential US Market

Gambling operators are now taking a second look at the U.S. market especially after the reactions of a majority of the Supreme Court (SC) justices have given them a renewed sense of hope that the country will finally lift the long-standing ban on sports betting. Or are these justices just bluffing during the hearing of New Jersey’s historic case? Truth be told, the fate of U.S. sports betting won’t be known until the high tribunal gives its final judgment in June. Industry leaders, government regulators, and analysts will try to take a look at the different scenarios of the high…

Iowa Supporters Hope SCOTUS Will Legalize Sports Betting

A pending decision by the U.S. Supreme Court could open the door to legalize sports betting in any state that approves it. A nonprofit organization that supports Iowa’s casinos plans to draft legislation that would legalize sports gambling in the state, should the U.S. Supreme Court rule in a way that makes that possible. That eventually could allow state-licensed casinos like the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City to offer wagering on sporting events along with slot machines and table games. “I think there’s a great deal of interest among people (who want) the opportunity to bet on a…

Optimism Grows as Sports Betting Case Nears

It was supposed to be the first of its kind in New Jersey: a lounge at Monmouth Park racetrack where people could legally bet on sports games — just like they do in Las Vegas. Four years after it was built, not a single bet has been placed. The lounge at the Oceanport track has been operating as a sports bar instead as the state’s effort to legalize sports betting at racetracks and casinos has been held up in a lengthy court battle. But that could soon change. The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in the…

Why the U.S. Sports Betting Ban Must be Lifted

The sports betting ban in America is not simply a matter of personal belief, it’s a matter of law!
