Another Hope for Mobile Indiana Sports Betting

After disagreement over the possibility of remote gambling, mobile Indiana sports betting is looking more and more like a real possibility. The state conference committee is reinserting provisions for the apps into the bill as it approaches the finish line. Disagreements across chambers primarily involved non-sports aspects of the bill concerning adjustments to casino licenses and location. As expected, most of Monday’s hearing orbited around those provisions. Mobile was one of the few sticking points within the sports betting language. The Senate bill authorized statewide mobile wagering as passed, but narrow opposition in the House nearly killed the bill entirely….

Iowa Supporters Hope SCOTUS Will Legalize Sports Betting

A pending decision by the U.S. Supreme Court could open the door to legalize sports betting in any state that approves it. A nonprofit organization that supports Iowa’s casinos plans to draft legislation that would legalize sports gambling in the state, should the U.S. Supreme Court rule in a way that makes that possible. That eventually could allow state-licensed casinos like the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City to offer wagering on sporting events along with slot machines and table games. “I think there’s a great deal of interest among people (who want) the opportunity to bet on a…

Sports and Sports Gambling is Peaking

If there’s one thing that is hard to ignore in this world, it is sports. Over the past several years especially, sports, and subsequently sports gambling, have become even more popular. It is hard to go anywhere without hearing someone talking about it, or seeing it on the TV. Most states don’t allow wagers on sporting events, thanks to a federal ban. In Nevada, where sports gambling is legal, it accounts for $4.25 million of the $11.2 billion in statewide gaming revenues. ““Sports betting unregulated is a debacle. It’s horrible because it puts money into the wrong people’s hands,” said Bill Pascrell III of Princeton Public Affairs Group. “Why should Nevada and Delaware have a monopoly? … It’s a state’s rights issue,” he said…

Feds should fold in their fight against New Jersey sports gambling

NJ.com – Working as a bookmaker for the mastermind of illegal sports gambling, Ron “The Cigar” Sacco, I’ve seen it all. I began clerking for Sacco in Los Angeles in 1986, when his organization was taking in a meager $40 million a year in bets. Raids on his offices in the United States eventually prompted Sacco to relocate offshore to the Dominican Republic, where gambling is legal. The feds were not deterred and Sacco was captured in 1993. By then his business was generating an estimated $1 billion a year in bets. Fast-forward two decades: U.S. News and World Report…
