Why the U.S. Sports Betting Ban Must be Lifted

The sports betting ban in America is not simply a matter of personal belief, it’s a matter of law! The U.S. Supreme Court will soon hear the argument to allow sports betting, and they should allow states to decide this issue for themselves. Hear why we believe this will actually happen!

Hello my friends! And welcome again to This Week in Gambling! I’m J Todd, back after my two-week summer vacation. I’ve made it home just in time for the beginning of fall, and that means football kickoffs and baseball playoffs! Plus, this week’s big story!

Twenty states have now filed briefs with the US Supreme Court in support of New Jersey’s fight against the federal sports betting ban, and in America twenty states in agreement on the same thing? Isn’t that a sign that the world’s gonna end or something? It’s a sign all right… but a sign that foretells the end of sports betting prohibition very soon!

The Supreme Court will hear the challenge on this and I believe they will strike down the ban. What makes me so confident? One word, my friends: PASPA! PASPA is an acronym for the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, passed by Congress in 1992. It’s why we have this damn ban in the first place! PASPA is also backed by the sports leagues and the NCAA, all of which use their vast wealth to bribe… I mean “Lobby”… the very Congress that passed the Act!

The problem is PASPA and any sports betting ban violate the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution, which specifically gives each state the right to decide issues like sports betting for themselves. And since the Supreme Court is more interested in the Constitution than they are in special interest monies, it is just my opinion that they will have no choice but to declare that PASPA is unconstitutional!

This week in Pennsylvania, more rumors about online gambling regulation are circulating. To which we all reply yeah, yeah, yeah… sure, sure. We’ve heard this all before. And in a similar story, the search continues for Amelia Earhart!
