California voters would back online poker regulation

california pokeriGaming Business – Polling and strategic consulting firm Tulchin Research has reported that the majority of voters in California would support the legalisation of online poker. As reported by iGaming Business, two new bills seeking to regulate online poker in the US state have recently been introduced in an effort to make California only the third state in the country to legalise some form of internet gaming.

A statewide survey by Tulchin Research found in an initial vote when citizens were given no information about the economic benefits of online poker that 62% would support regulation while 28% would oppose.

However, after being informed of how the state could benefit economically from online poker, total support increased to 68% while opposition dropped slightly to 27%.

In a statement, Tulchin Research said: “This poll clearly shows California voters want online poker regulated and taxed in a way to maximise the benefit for the state and its citizens while also ensuring the safety of participants.”

The research was conducted among 800 likely voters via telephone interviews from April 15-21, 2014.
