4Flush – Legal online poker is currently available in three US states, Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey, and it may soon be coming to a state near you thanks to the 2011 reversal of their interpretation of the Wire Act –after declaring the Wire Act applied to all forms of online gambling back in 2002, the DOJ now feels it only applies to sports-betting. This new interpretation opened the door for states to pass online gambling legislation, and with the federal government unlikely to take action either way, it appears online gambling will be left up to each state for…

FIFA report: World Cup ‘friendly’ matches more susceptible to fixing
Aljazeera – The man in the dark green shirt and matching scarf, stood, statuesque, on Stevenage Road, in the upper-middle-class district of Fulham in west London. Some other fans, in Scottish kilts, stopped to take his picture. He wanted to be noticed, because he held a placard in front of his chest with words written in red ink across it: “We don’t fix matches, we WIN them.” Across the road, at Fulham’s Craven Cottage stadium, the placard bearer’s beloved Nigeria team was about to kick off against Scotland, in the first of Nigeria’s friendly preparation matches for the World Cup….
Illegal World Cup Betting Crackdown in Hong Kong
Police from Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China are stepping up enforcement action against illegal World Cup betting as police from both Special Administrative Regions and from Guangdong province have launched a month-long crackdown on illegal football gambling, Hong Kong Standard newspaper reports. The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil kicks off on June 12 with the final set for July 13. In June 2010, Macau’s casino revenue declined 20 percent from the previous month, a drop that was attributed by some financial analysts to the World Cup keeping some gamblers away from gaming tables and slot machines. Gambling revenue for the…
Proposal to link video games, slot machines passes Nevada committee
Allowing gambling on video game competition may be a wave of the future in Nevada. “The market is huge,” says Christopher LaPorte, owner of Insert Coins, a video arcade in downtown Las Vegas. This would be a new way to invigorate the gaming industry, he says. A legislative study committee recommended Nevada change its law to permit the state Gaming Commission to decide on ways to expand the gaming market. Dan Reaser, a Reno lawyer representing game manufacturers, advanced the proposal. The idea would be to allow the Gaming Commission to approve rules to permit skill-based games and also to…
Nevada governor skeptical about betting on elections
Las Vegas Sun – Gov. Brian Sandoval isn’t sold on allowing Nevada to become the first state to permit betting on the presidential and other federal elections. “As I think through it, unless I’m convinced otherwise, it is not something I would support,” Sandoval said today. He described himself as “more of a traditionalist” when it comes to betting. “The state has done fine on sports and horse race betting and other events,” he said. The governor hasn’t taken a public position on the issue until now. State Sen. Tick Segerblom, D-Las Vegas, is pushing a proposal to open up…
