Maine Sports Betting Bill Advances
Lawmakers have given the green light to Maine sports betting legislation. The state Senate voted 19-15 while the House approved the bill unanimously which would allow residents over the age of 21 bet on professional and college sports competitions. Bets could be placed either at physical locations – such as existing casinos or off-track betting parlors – or online via the mobile apps that account for the majority of sports gambling nationwide. New Jersey Sports Betting Payoff
A year ago, the New Jersey sports betting fight was handed a victory by the Supreme Court, with the justices deeming the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) unconstitutional. Since then, New Jersey and six other states have provided citizens with what they said they wanted in 2011 when voters approved a sports betting referendum. In the first three months of 2019, more than $1 billion has been legally wagered across the state. Sports Betting in New York Approved
Gambling regulators have approved regulations to allow sports betting in New York. The new rules will allow wagers on sporting events at Rivers Casino, Resorts World Catskills, Tioga Downs and Del Lago Casino. Nevada Gaming Revenue Drops Below $1 Billion
Gaming revenue in the state of Nevada fell below $1 billion for the first time this year when the April numbers came in at just over $936 million. Total revenue for the stats was down 1.8% from last year. Most of the states revenue is derived from slot machine play, which accounted for $658.8 million of the total gaming revenue. There was, however, a drop of nearly 6% in casino table games, card games and sports and race betting to just short of $278 million. Read more at iGaming Business.
Louisiana Sports Betting Opportunity Wasted
The possibility of Louisiana sports betting appears to be lost for the year after the state’s House of Representatives rejected amendments bill that would have legalized wagering. That original House bill primarily focused on regulating daily fantasy sports in the state, but was amended by the Senate to include betting on sports. Had it been approved by the House (and secured a majority of votes in a state election of Louisiana citizens) it would have enabled to establishment of regulatory framework for sports betting.
