America’s Online Gambling Monster
Gambling is a fantastically, astonishingly lucrative market, yet online gambling is more or less illegal in the United States, despite the popularity of physical casinos in Vegas and Reno and Atlantic City. Richard Branson opened the high-profile online VirginCasino in 2014, but dealers hit a soft sixteen only for gamers physically in New Jersey. Few industries are this regulated: Donald Trump himself couldn’t get a gambling license in Las Vegas last year. It wasn’t always this way. PokerStars, the largest online gambling venue in the world, gained prominence during the 2000s with hundreds of thousands of players, valuations in the…
Disney and Gambling: Mickey Mouse Politics
Mickey is not a fan of casino gambling coming to the Sunshine State. Disney and gambling really don’t seem to mix. In fact, the House of Mouse hasn’t shied away from putting its money where its mouth is with its support of the committee backing a proposed ballot initiative that would limit gaming expansion. Disney Worldwide Services contributed another $575,000 to “Voters in Charge” last month, bringing its total support to $2.33 million since March. Disney is virtually the only major backer of the committee, too. Over its lifetime, Voters in Charge has brought in just $232,500 in monetary contributions…

The Perkins-based Iowa Tribe has obtained a license from the Isle of Man that will allow it to offer real-money internet gaming in many foreign countries and says it has a new deal to to partner with an “internationally known brand.” The tribe and its partner Universal Entertainment Group could get a boost from this yet-to be named brand to finally launch Pokertribe.com. The website has missed several previously announced launch dates. Universal Entertainment Group is also possibly under federal investigation, as I previously reported here. The tribe now says it will be able to launch the site sometime this…

The Global Gaming Expo (G2E) is the largest gathering of the year for United States casino operators. This year the expo takes place from October 3-5 at The Venetian and Sands Convention Center. Buyers go to the expo and will look for everything from new games to employee uniforms. Other casino employees will go to various seminars at G2E to hear about the state of the industry around the country. I’m in casinos almost every day and always have my eyes open for something new. Today, I’m at The Venetian checking out the first installation of Fortune Cup. This is…
How 90 Ball Bingo Began
The earliest record of Bingo in history is in Italy in the mid 1500’s. Bingo as we know it today (including 90 Ball Bingo) is a direct descendant of Lo Giuoco del Lotto d’Italia, which is the Italian national lottery. By the late 1770’s the game had begun to spread across Europe. It first captured the interest of the French and later Germany. The Germans used the game as an educational tool, to help with the teaching of multiplication tables, spelling and history to children. From Middle Ages Till Modern Day Bingo The period between the 1800s and modern day…
