Japan May Ban Poker and Sports Betting from Casinos

The ever-tightening restrictions being touted for Japan’s integrated resorts could see skill games including poker and sports betting banned from casino floors. According to national newspaper The Mainichi, a list of recommendations submitted to the government by the Expert Committee last month includes stringent guidelines on the types of games that should be allowed in the nation’s casinos with key features being that they can be easily controlled by the operator, can only be played at casinos and, most significantly, are based on chance. If enforced, the guidelines would limit the games available to the likes of baccarat, blackjack, roulette and sic bo…

European Roulette Still Rules the Roost

European Roulette is believed by many to be the most popular game in both land-based casinos and their online counterparts. When you think of a casino, the roulette table is probably the first thing that comes to mind, along with neon lights and stacks of chips. It’s such an intriguing and uncomplicated game that, for many, it will be the number one destination for a first and hopefully memorable initial step into the world of gambling. And this trend shows no signs of being reversed anytime soon. Although the rise of online bingo has been credited to some extent with reviving the traditional industry, live bingo is still very much on life support, as interest ebbs away from a sector that is often regarded as staid and dusty. Online bingo has wings, whereas its real world equivalent looks like…

Some Casinos Pulling Skill Games Off Floors

Caesars’ first attempt to bring skill games to its Atlantic City casinos was apparently a flop, according to a report. The 21 games placed at Harrah’s Resort, Caesars and Bally’s have been pulled after they failed to generate enough revenue to cover vendor fees, according to Press of Atlantic City. Games such as “Danger Arena,” were rolled out last year in an attempt to draw millennials into casinos. Though gamblers born from the early 1980s and on made up 71 percent of people playing the skill games, it wasn’t enough to make them viable. A Caesars official called the experiment…
