Macau’s casino boom propels Hong Kong’s rich list
South China Morning Post – Galaxy Entertainment chairman Lui Che-woo has ridden Macau’s casino boom to become Hong Kong’s second-richest person, according to Forbes magazine. The 84-year-old tycoon saw his net worth rise US$11.5 billion last year, the magazine said in its Forbes Hong Kong Rich list released yesterday. “His new net worth at US$21 billion, against US$9.5 billion previously, catapulted him from the fifth-richest man in Hong Kong last year to second on this year’s list,” it said. AGA Announces Plans for Global Gaming Expo Japan
There’s the prospect this spring of three major casino conferences in East Asia in the space of a single month. The news emerged after the Washington D.C.-based casino industry lobby group the American Gaming Association and partner Reed Exhibitions said they aim to hold a new event called ‘G2E Japan’ – or Global Gaming Expo Japan – in that country once parliament there passes a bill to legalize casino resorts. UK High-stakes gambling machines survive Commons vote
Politics.co.uk – Fixed odds betting terminals survived a Commons vote last night, but the gambling industry was effectively put on notice that more regulation is almost certainly on the way.
