The Nanum Lotto consortium, which includes gaming technology supplier Intralot, has been awarded an extended licence to operate South Korea’s national lottery for the next five years. The Korea Lottery Commission awarded the licence to the consortium, which has been exclusively operating the country’s national lottery since 2007. Under the new licence, Nanum Lotto will be responsible for operating the country’s online and instant products as well as the electronic lottery, with a new “localised” lottery system to be launched in December. Intralot will provide system operations, monitoring services, consulting services related to online and instant products, and technological support….
Vegas Revenue Recovery Elusive As Macau Thrive
Las Vegas revenue from casino gaming recovery remains elusive, while Chinese gambling enclave Macau continues to grow rapidly. July gambling revenue in Nevada totaled $926 million, down 8% from a year ago, state officials said. On the Las Vegas Strip, the take was down 14.4% to $522 million, and downtown Vegas revenue slipped 9.7% to $40 million. RBC Capital Markets said in a client note the shortfall in Vegas was primarily due to reduced baccarat play by high-roller VIP gamblers and a lower percentage win by casinos on The Strip. “However, results were actually weaker than reported, as slot volumes…
U.S. Feds Warn Casino Operators
Patch.com – Las Vegas got a $47 million wakeup call Monday night from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and today local casinos got this message from the feds: “What happens in Vegas no longer stays in Vegas,” said U.S. Attorney André Birotte Jr. “All companies, especially casinos, are now on notice that America’s anti-money laundering laws apply to all people and every corporation, even if that company risks losing its most profitable customer.” The stern warning follows news that the Las Vegas Sands Corp., which operates the Venetian-Palazzo hotel complex in Las Vegas, has agreed to return $47,400,300 to conclude an…
Golden Nugget owners selling Atlantic City casino?
Press of Atlantic City – The parent company of Golden Nugget Atlantic City may possibly sell the casino or its Internet gambling rights after struggling with some “less than stellar results” in a slumping market. Despite a $150 million renovation last year that transformed a formerly drab property into a glitzier casino, Golden Nugget has continued to lose money under the ownership of Houston-based Landry’s Inc. Landry’s, the restaurant, entertainment and casino conglomerate controlled by Texas billionaire Tilman Fertitta, says it has been approached by the investment bank Houlihan Lokey to consider selling Golden Nugget or its Internet gambling rights…
Intralot sues government over lottery licences
iGaming Business – Greek-owned gaming and lottery operator Intralot has sued the state government in Australia after claiming that rival company Tatts Group was offered favourable treatment during talks over licences for two public lottery categories, according to the Herald Sun newspaper. In a writ that was filed at the Supreme Court in Australia, Intralot said it was seeking damages for a lost opportunity to earn profits, as well as interest and costs. Both of the licences under the spotlight include a clause that blocks the licensee from entering into “exclusive arrangements” for the distribution of lottery products. This includes…
Macau gambling revenue up 17% in August
Reuters – Gambling revenue in Macau rose 17.6 percent in August year-on-year, buoyed by a steady flow of wealthy Chinese punters to China’s only legal casino hub. August’s revenue of 30.7 billion patacas ($3.88 billion) was the second strongest figure this year, according to government data released on Monday. Analysts had forecast August growth in the world’s biggest gambling market to be up 17-19 percent. A Portuguese colony until 1999, Macau’s gambling revenues are closely twinned with China’s economy as more than two-thirds of its visitors coming from the mainland. Analysts are mostly bullish on Macau, citing low penetration among…
