Boyd Gaming Chief says they’re ‘moving in the right direction’
Boyd Gaming Chief reported its second-quarter earnings Tuesday. The company operates locals properties the Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast and Sam’s Town, downtown’s Main Street Station, California and Fremont and a total of 22 casinos in eight states. Boyd showed slight revenue increases in its locals and downtown Las Vegas properties, while cash flow improved in the locals properties by 12.1 percent from a year ago and was up for a second straight quarter. From Business Week – South Korea’s Incheon city said Thursday a $290 billion plan to transform a fishing village into a rival to the Chinese gambling enclave of Macau has collapsed. Incheon Free Economic Zone official Jung Mi-hyun said luxury hotel operator Kempinski AG, a key member of the development consortium, failed to raise a promised $40 million by the end of July. Kempinski’s Korean unit KI Corp. is the largest shareholder in the consortium, Eightcity Co. Korean Air Lines Co. is the second-largest. A Texas gambling mogul has just sealed the deal to open a new Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Louisiana. Galveston native TiIlman Fertitta wants another bite of the estimated $2.5 billion Texans spend on gambling, which now goes out of state. From Reuters – Macau’s gambling revenues defied China’s economic slowdown and rose 20 percent in July year-on-year, boosted by an increase in the number of Chinese visitors to the country’s only legal casino gambling hub as well as the size of their bets. Leighton Grabs $2.8b Macau Casino Contract
From The Age – Construction giant Leighton has snared a $2.8 billion contract to build a new luxury casino in Macau. Leighton’s Asian division will build the 450,000 square metre resort and hotel after sealing a deal with Wynn Resorts, which owns casinos in Las Vegas and Macau. The resort will be built on the Cotai Strip in the international gambling destination.
