Woe! 650-Foot Las Vegas Roller Coaster on The Strip?
Hold on to your hats. There may be another Las Vegas roller coaster headed for the Strip, offering another attraction for risk-loving thrill seekers. Amusement ride company, U.S. Thrill Rides, plans to spend $100 million on building what they call a “Polercoaster” near the Tropicana Hotel on the Strip. The 650-foot tall Las Vegas roller coaster would be the tallest in the world and would be a combination of a ride and an observation tower with stunning views of Las Vegas. In April, U.S. Thrill Rides submitted plans to the Federal Aviation Administration to build the tower-like coaster. A Polercoaster…
Don’t Expect a Nevada Lottery Any Time Soon
From Pokerati Let’s halt one rumor before it gains traction. Scientific Games Corp.’s $1.5 billion acquisition of slot machine manufacturer WMS Industries doesn’t mean a statewide lottery is headed to Nevada. New York-based Scientific Games provides lottery systems and equipment to U.S. states, Canadian provinces and foreign governments. The company was actively seeking to acquire a traditional slot machine vendor when the buyout was announced in February. It wasn’t about bringing a lottery to Nevada. That said, Wall Street, which was skeptical about the deal, is starting to find some comfort with the transaction. Scientific Games is paying $26 per…

New York State & Seneca Tribe to Share Gambling Revenue
Putting an end to a long-standing battle, the Seneca Indian tribe reached an agreement with the state of New York this week, with the tribe agreeing to share gambling revenue that was being withheld in protest of the installation of video lottery machines in commercial, non-tribal racetracks in the western region of the state. Since 2009 the tribe has refused to share their revenue, alleging that the racetracks were violating a contract that was meant to ensure tribal control of casinos in that area of New York. As part of the agreement, three communities are now poised to receive millions…
Atlantic City Horse Racing on the Beach?
Could we see Atlantic City horse racing on the beach? The centuries-old Il Palio event held in Siena, Italy may get a variation in that theme in New Jersey, as was first reported here on this blog last month. On Monday, legislation to permit the horse races on the Atlantic City beach cleared an Assembly committee. The bill (A-4149) would authorize the New Jersey Racing Commission to grant “a special permit to a running race permit holder that leases a state-owned racetrack, to hold or conduct a special running race meeting on the beach.” Assemblyman John Burzichelli, D-Gloucester, said the…
