Scientific Games has announced that the company is splitting their lottery operations from their slots and igaming divisions. The lottery group will operate as a stand-alone company and retain the Scientific Games name. Meanwhile, the Gaming and iGaming divisions have split-off and rebranded as Light & Wonder. The Light & Wonder company will establish a cross-platform approach to deliver online slot and game franchises to casino players in land-based, online and mobile casinos, and for both real money and free play social games. The threat from the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus did little to slow down the Vegas revenue record streak. Nevada casinos once again took in over $1 billion in the month of January, marking the 11th consecutive month they’ve done so. A report from the Nevada Gaming Control Board shows that the state won close to $1.1 billion, which was up over 40% from the same time last year. Anyone waiting for Oklahoma sports betting just got a ray hope last week. A bill to bring the activity passed from a House Committee recently, and aims to legalize wagers on sporting events at state tribal casinos. This proposed legislation, House Bill 3008, stops short of regulating mobile betting. All transactions would be required to take place in person at a casino. The Bill was proposed by Representative Ken Luttrell, a Republican, who believes Oklahoma sports betting would be good economically for both the state and tribal gaming. We’ve reported on the big changes coming to the Las Vegas Strip over the past few weeks, and now you can add another name to that list of casinos. We just don’t know what that will be yet. In 2021, gambling in America set an all-time revenue record for the commercial gaming industry. Revenue reached $53 billion, according to our friends at the American Gaming Association. This total shatters the 2019 industry record of just under $44 billion by more than 20%.
