Pennsylvania House Shoots Down Online Gambling

If baby needs a new pair of shoes, you’re still going to have to try to win the money for them in a Pennsylvania casino or the nightly state Lottery drawing. The House on Tuesday rejected separate amendments that would have drastically expanded when, where and how adults could wager in the state. Both amendments would have legalized online gambling and fantasy sports, provided the activities were run by the state’s licensed casinos. The first amendment failed 122-66. It would have allowed video game slot machines at taverns, bars, social clubs and volunteer fire halls. The second bill — rejected…

Amaya Gaming Continues Growth Amid “Unexpected” Events

Rafi Ashkenazi, interim chief executive of Amaya, has said that the company was able to record year-on-year growth across a host of key finances during the three months through to March 31, despite having had to contend with a number of “unexpected challenges” in the period. Revenue in the first quarter amounted to $288.7 million (€254.8 million), which represents an increase of 6% on the $272.3 million posted in the same period last year. The Resurrection of RAWA

The Restoration of America’s Wire Act (RAWA) is back, courtesy of United States Senator and failed presidential candidate Lindsey Graham. Since quitting the campaign, backing other failed candidates, and refusing to back the Republican’s presumptive nominee, Donald Trump, Graham is ready to return to the work of the people. Well, at least to the work of big-money political donor Sheldon Adelson. Numerous attempts to ban online gambling by way of a federal law have failed, but Adelson – errr, Graham – is not giving up yet. He has added some of the RAWA language to the most recent Senate Appropriations…

Pennsylvania Online Gambling Bill Returns in June

A new report indicates a bill that would legalize Pennsylvania online gambling and poker will be back on the legislature’s agenda next month. The gambling expansion package that has been on the House floor since late last year appears to be coming off the sidelines. A new report from the Reading Eagle indicates that the House will take up a bill involving online gambling in June. That legislation is HB 649, although the story did not mention the bill by name. The bill, when last seen, included a number of different gaming expansions that could derail its progress, including the…

Full Tilt Merging into PokerStars

The final days for Full Tilt poker are officially upon us. After announcing back in February that Full Tilt would be “pooled together” with fellow Amaya Gaming online brand PokerStars.com into one product, the company announced last week that May 17 will be the official date. The Full Tilt communications team stated that Full Tilt players would be e-mailed directly regarding personal information on how the merge will affect them specifically, “which depends on a variety of factors, including their jurisdiction and the status of their PokerStars account (if any).” The statement went on to say that, “in many cases,…

RAWA Language Quietly Slipped into Senate Bill

RAWA, the Restoration of America’s Wire Act, has been shuffling around the halls of Congress for more than two years, but the anti-online gambling and poker legislation has found little patronage or support during its loiter. First introduced into the US Senate and House of Representatives by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) in March of 2014, RAWA seeks to restore the Wire Act and effectively take away a state’s right to offer Internet gambling. RAWA isn’t officially dead, but by all means it appears to be shelved in its original form. That’s why some were…
