New Regulation Clarifies Duties of Spanish Gaming Operators
New Anti-Money Laundering rules were approved by regulators for Spanish gaming on May 5 to clarify many issues and duties of licensed Spanish gaming and lottery operators. Going forward, gaming and lottery operators will be obliged to verify the player’s identity for any prize or winnings worth €2,500 or more. To further complicate matters, the €2,500 quota can be related to one event or also a series of connected events. At this point in time, however, the definition of how connected events are isn’t clear yet and will be treated on a case by case basis. Spanish gaming betting products…
Republicans Place Wrong Bet on Internet Gambling
Several years ago, a work colleague instructed me to use the phrase ‘gaming’, and not internet gambling when discussing our organization’s work on federal gambling policy. She believed that term better reflected the breadth of the issue and, to a certain extent, minimized the negative connotations associated with “gambling.” Twelve years later, I’m not sure that works anymore. First of all, if I began this column discussing “gaming” issues, you might think I’m referring to introverted teenagers hiding from the sun in front of their Xbox consoles. But is this really the case? And perhaps an even better question to ask is, does regulation increase or decrease the ability of shady characters to launder money online? It’s not that the reports Sheldon Adelson and the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling are citing are false. It’s the way in which Adelson and company are presenting these findings…
Is Bitcoin a Legal Loophole for Online Sports Betting in US?
PR Newswire – The Stossel Show, which airs on fox news, brought on Bitcoin Center NYC Policy Associate Naomi Brockwell to talk about how Bitcoin has revolutionized online betting — and made an activity that is illegal in most of the United States accessible to American bettors. Brockwell states, “The way that the ban on internet gaming is enforced is that the government actually targets the intermediary, the financial institutions, that process the payments to the online gaming sites. What’s amazing about bitcoin is it is a peer to peer currency so it doesn’t actually use any of these financial…
Legal marijuana vs. Internet poker
Oregon Live – When it comes to online gambling vs. legalized marijuana, Americans apparently prefer pot over poker. A new poll from Farleigh Dickinson University finds that 50 percent favor legalizing marijuana use, while 27 percent support legalizing Internet gambling in the 47 states that don’t allow it. “Right now online gambling looks to be a long shot in the court of public opinion,” Krista Jenkins, the poll’s director and a political science professor told the Associated Press. The poll comes as good news to billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson, who is on a crusade to get Congress to ban…
