Massachusetts to wait until casinos are open for online gambling
Milford Daily News – On the heels of the expanded gambling law’s two-year anniversary, the chairman of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission says it may be three more years before a Bay State casino opens and called online wagering a “major unknown question” on the gambling horizon. The November 2011 law calls for up to three resort casinos, with one targeted for each of three regions, and one facility with up to 1,250 slot machines anywhere in the state. But voters in several Massachusetts communities – East Boston, Milford, and Palmer this month alone – have already turned down casino proposals,…

iGaming Business – The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has announced that more than 32,000 players have signed up for new online gambling accounts during the first week of operations in the US state. According to the TotallyGaming, com website, a total of 5,000 players registered on Thanksgiving alone. Regulators said that some users had created accounts on multiple gambling websites, something that has helped to inflate the sign-up figure. Regulators have been unable to confirm how many actual bets had been placed. New Jersey launched a full online gambling service on November 26 following a five-day soft launch trial…

The unnamed members of the RGA applied to Greece’s Minister of Finance and the Hellenic Gambling Commission (HGC) for online gambling licences in July 2013, but they are yet to receive a response – a contravention of Greek law, according to the trade body. The RGA said last month that it was “regrettable” that the European Commission had failed to include Greece in a list of European Union…
New Jersey Governor believes online gambling will produce $1 billion by July
NJ.com – Gov. Chris Christie said today that he still expects online gambling in New Jersey to produce about $1 billion in casino revenue by July 1. Industry analysts have said Christie’s projection — part of the current state budget, which anticipates $160 million in tax revenue from the venture — is far too optimistic. As the state gave six casinos permission to begin operating internet gambling websites last week, analysts said they expect about $300 million in revenue by this time next year. But Christie said he was undeterred. At a press conference at the statehouse in Trenton, the…
New Jersey online gambling improves after test launch
Bloomberg – The first week of Internet gambling in New Jersey went well, according to the state’s top casino regulator, who says he finally stopped worrying about it. “I’m pleasantly pleased,” said David Rebuck, director of the state Division of Gaming Enforcement. “I’m also very tired because for the last seven days, all I’ve been doing is worrying this was going to crash.” It didn’t. Between Nov. 21, when a test of Internet gambling began, and last Thursday, 37,277 accounts had been set up, enabling people to win or lose money on card games, table games and slots — all…
