Social Interaction for Online Casino Games

With mobile gambling apps increasing in popularity, gamblers spend much more time playing online casino games on their devices. Now, there has been a call in the gaming community for software developers to offer ways for gamblers to interact socially while playing games. Several years ago players were given the opportunity to communicate with one another while sitting in bingo lounges. This kind of technology was not immediately made available for online casino games because no one had yet envisioned that players would want to interact among themselves. That changed several years back when software developers like Evolution Gaming began…

Panel: 90% of US Sports Betting Online in 10 Years

Speaking at the East Coast Gaming Congress in New Jersey, a panel of gambling and tech executives recently theorized that 90% of US sports betting will be done over mobile phones and the internet somewhere between the next five to 10 years. Since winning a U.S. Supreme Court case last year, New Jersey has taken in nearly $3 billion in sports bets with about 80% of those placed online. That is only expected to rise over the next decade. Moti Malul, CEO of NeoGames, a global provider of internet lottery and gambling technology, predicted “90-plus percent” of all U.S. sports…

Justice Department Still Planning Wire Act Enforcement

The Department of Justice lost their case against New Hampshire. A case which centered around their misguided decision to enforce their “opinion” on the Federal Wire Act. An opinion which one judge has already said is not correct. But apparently, that doesn’t mean they don’t have plans for Wire Act enforcement. One would think that the highest law enforcement agency in the country would respect the decision of a federal judge, but that doesn’t seem to be the route the DoJ is taking. Instead, they have only delayed the enforcement of their opinion until January 1st, 2020. In a memo…

New Jersey Sports Betting Payoff

A year ago, the New Jersey sports betting fight was handed a victory by the Supreme Court, with the justices deeming the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) unconstitutional. Since then, New Jersey and six other states have provided citizens with what they said they wanted in 2011 when voters approved a sports betting referendum. In the first three months of 2019, more than $1 billion has been legally wagered across the state. In March alone, New Jersey’s sports betting handle made up a third of the total amount bet legally on sports across all states with legal markets….

The Oregon sports betting fight has begun in earnest, as the state lottery has contracted SBTech  to power mobile and retail sports betting. The state lottery wants to launch by September ahead of the NFL season. However, not everyone is pleased with the idea of mobile gambling. State Senator Mark Hass proposed an amendment to sports betting legislation late last week… an amendment to prohibit sports betting on mobile devices. The amendment reads, in part that ‘The Oregon State Lottery Commission may not offer a sports betting game unless tickets or shares for the game maybe purchased solely via equipment…

Apple Gambling Policy Could Kill Online Casinos

The latest update to the App Store guidelines to reflect the Apple gambling policy contains new rules which will certainly have a big impact on real-money gaming apps and, consequently, the entire industry. The June 3 update added that “…games distributed in apps may not provide access to real money gaming, lotteries…”, and that all existing apps must follow this guideline by September 3, 2019. Apple’s previous guidelines were already suspected in the delay of getting apps live for New Jersey and Pennsylvania online betting. Another new wrinkle this rule creates is that it will remove existing gambling apps from…
