Fantasy Sports are Gambling Says New York Judge
A judge in New York has ruled that fantasy sports are gambling, placing the industry in doubt for one of the biggest markets in the country. The Albany judge said that daily fantasy sports (DFS) should be illegal in the state. Acting Supreme Court Justice Gerald Connolly made the ruling on Friday in response to a lawsuit submitted by anti-gambling organizations, according to the Journal News. A multiyear NHL Sports Betting agreement with MGM Resorts International has been announced, with data for use in betting. This is the second major U.S. professional sports league to strike a deal with the casino giant since the Supreme Court opened the way to expanded gambling last spring. FanDuel Sued by William Hill
In a civil complaint filed Tuesday in federal court in New Jersey finds FanDuel sued by bookmaker William Hill for copyright infringement. The suit is in regard to a betting guide being distributed at the Meadowlands Racetrack sportsbook. William Hill, which operates the sportsbooks at Monmouth Park racetrack and Ocean Resort Casino in New Jersey, is seeking damages and injunctive relief after discovering that FanDuel’s betting guide included identical wording from parts of the “How to Bet Guide” published by William Hill on June 5, 2018.
