Maine Regulates Fantasy Sports
Maine has become the 15th US state to legalise paid-for daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests. DFS is now classed as a ‘game of skill’ in Maine and operators that wish to offer such services in the state will need to have revenue of more than $100,000 (€84,700) and pay a licensing fee of $2,500. Other measures set out by the state include companies having to pay a tax rate of 10% on gross revenue in Maine, while DFS operators will not be able to offer contests on collegiate or other amateur events. National Indian Gaming Association Supports Sports Betting Reform
The National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) has announced that it will join forces with the American Sports Betting Coalition (ASBC), a group which is campaigning for the repeal or amendment of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). ASBC is primarily run by the American Gaming Association (AGA) and represents law enforcement officials, states rights’ advocates, policymakers and the gaming industry. NIGA represents 184 gaming tribes throughout the continental US. FanDuel Exits UK Market
Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator FanDuel has closed its operations in the UK market. FanDuel informed players of its decision via email and also confirmed its exit via a posting on its official Twitter account. In a message on its website, FanDuel said that it hoped to return to the UK “in the future”, but did not officially disclose the reasons behind the move.
