AGA Says 75% of Americans Favor Legalized Sports Betting
A majority of Americans are in favor of allowing states to decide whether to legalize sports betting, with avid sports fans even more likely to support such a move. That’s according to a survey commissioned by the American Gaming Association, the casino group pushing for regulation of sports wagering around the US. Perhaps the most shocking data: A minority of people are unaware of the current legality of sports betting in the US. The firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner conducted the national survey for the AGA. The questions revolved around people’s attitudes toward sports betting. In particular, it polled sentiment toward…
Like it or Not, New NFL Stadium has Gambling Ties
The new NFL stadium in Las Vegas doesn’t yet have a name and isn’t expected to open until 2020. But when it does, at least one nickname certainly will apply: The House That Gambling Built. The $1.9 billion project never would have made it through the state legislature – or attracted the Oakland Raiders – without the support of the gambling industry, according to experts and the legislative record. “The industry has been instrumental in the project,” said Jeremy Aguero, an analyst who works for the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, the stadium’s landlord. After it opens, the Raiders also might…
Pennsylvania Eyes Legalized Sports Betting
Pennsylvania has moved closer to the introduction of a legalised sports betting market after the Gaming and Oversight Committee in the US state’s House of Representatives voted to move legislation forward. Introduced in February, House Bill 519 would enable Pennsylvania to legalise sports betting activities, pending federal authorisation. The bill passed with a unanimous vote of 24-0 and will now move on to the full House for consideration. Measures set out in HB 519 include Pennsylvania-based casinos that already hold a licence to offer slot machines being able to apply to offer sports betting. The licence fee would be set…
Bookmakers Release Trump Impeachment Odds
The Trump impeachment odds are being calculated for the 45th President. Trump has proved to be a man of rare talent and admirable consistency. Indeed, the fact that somehow all (or almost all) of his decisions and actions usually turn out to be ones vocally opposed by the majorities should be seen as a rare talent. Not necessarily a positive talent, but a talent of some sort. President Trump was inaugurated on January 20, 2017. Two months into office and he has somehow managed to vex and irritate the whole world, and we live in a big world. Despite the…
Alabama Could be Next to Regulate Fantasy Sports
Alabama could soon operate legal daily fantasy sports as State legislators decided to pass the bill. According to Biz Journals, the Alabama House of Representatives approved yesterday a gaming amendment to include daily fantasy sports under local regulations. The sector will still be considered as illegal until the Senate confirms the House approval. Daily fantasy sports operations, licenses, taxes and conditions will be under the control of recently-created Alabama Advisory Council on Gaming. Following other federal states’ measures, regional officials are discussing whether daily fantasy sports represents a form of illegal gambling (based on luck) or if it offers betting…
Trump Would Speak to League Commissioners about Sports Betting
Hours before the Super Bowl on Sunday, President Trump was interviewed by longtime TV and radio personality Jim Gray on a variety of topics – including sports betting. Gray referred to a recent American Gaming Association recent analysis on the volume of sports betting on the big game. “You know quite a bit, as a former casino owner, and you have a particular insight — today an estimated $5 billion will be wagered, $4.8 billion, unregulated and untaxed illegally,” Gray said. “What is your position and thoughts on making sports gambling legal nationwide?” “Well, what I’d do is I’d sit…
