Fantasy Sports Pay $12 Million for “Deceptive Ads” in New York
The country’s two leading online daily fantasy sports companies are paying out big — in fines to the state. FanDuel and DraftKings on Tuesday agreed to pay $6 million each to settle lawsuits from Attorney General Eric Schneiderman alleging they engaged in false and deceptive advertising practices. Schneiderman had charged that the companies misled casual and novice players about their chances of winning and the significant advantages professional players have while failing to disclose the dangers of gambling addiction. Delegates attending next week’s Esports and Casinos Resorts conference in Las Vegas will have the chance to take a tour of the city’s first dedicated esports arena. Nevada Governor Questions NFL Stadium Finances
Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday asked who would pay for the necessary upgrades to freeways and streets leading to a 65,000-seat domed football stadium proposed by Las Vegas Sands Corp., Majestic Realty and the Oakland Raiders. Tennis Integrity Unit to Probe Wimbledon Betting
The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) is to investigate suspicious betting patterns from a match at this year’s Wimbledon tournament. The TIU has not said which match it is assessing, but said the probe is a “routine, confidential investigation”. The TIU is already looking at the US Open first-round match between Vitalia Diatchenko and Timea Bacsinszky. From July to September, the TIU said it received 96 alerts on suspicious betting activity, including two alerts from Wimbledon and the US Open. New York Lawsuit to Stop Fantasy Sports
The constitutionality of a new law legalizing and regulating daily fantasy sports in New York is being challenged in court, according to the group Stop Predatory Gambling. According to SPG, a group of New York citizens filed a lawsuit with the New York State Supreme Court on Wednesday. While the state legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo enacted a law regarding DFS this summer, the lawsuit contends that a constitutional amendment was needed to do this.
