CTV – Windsor West MP Brian Masse renews calls for federal Senate to pass Bill C-290 in second session. Masse questioned why the Senate continues to delay the passage of Bill C-290 after pressuring the senators to pass the bill since the last session of Parliament. “There should be no controversy on passing Bill C-290, as it went through the House of Commons without a single dissenting voice” The official opposition MP went on to highlight the well rounded support for the Bill. “Bill C-290 has significant support from political parties, provincial governments, gaming associations, the Canadian Labour Congress and…

iGaming Business – UK Prime Minister David Cameron has vowed to take a “proper look” at whether high stakes, fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs) should be banned from betting shops in the country. The BBC reports Cameron’s vow came in response to Labour MP Tom Watson, who voiced his concerns about the machines during Prime Minister’s Questions. Watson described the machines as “addictive” and had transformed betting shops into “high street digital casinos”. iGaming Business – Nigel Mawer, chairman of the disciplinary committee of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), has said that snooker authorities must monitor betting markets if they are to curb match-fixing in the sport. Speaking to the Reuters news agency, former Scotland Yard detective Mawer said that the approach was “crucial” to keeping track of such activities. “The point for me is if you are going to fix a match, normally it’s for people to win money by betting,” he said. “So it’s crucial that we can monitor betting markets worldwide. It gives us the opportunity to…
Voters Split On Sports Betting in New Jersey
With struggling racetracks and casinos, there are now considerations for sports betting in New Jersey. The Garden State is seeking a new source of revenue, and the temptation to legalize the activity is a big one. The state has attempted to legalize wagers on sporting events in casinos several times since the 1990s, but all legal action has been overturned by the federal government. Last month a federal appeals court in Philadelphia ruled that a law endorsing the regulation and taxation of sports betting in New Jersey was unconstitutional and conflicted with federal law in a 2-1 decision. State officials…
