NFL Sports Betting Policy: A Warning to Football Players

Following the suspension  of Arizona Cardinals player Josh Shaw, a memo about the NFL sports betting policy has a warning for their players. This comes after an investigation found that Shaw had gambled on multiple NFL games this year at a casino in Las Vegas. Although Shaw had not played this year due to injury, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him through the 2020 season. Since that time, a memo has been leaked to ESPN and reveals that the league warned all players, coaches, and team personnel that any betting on anything related  to the NFL will not be tolerated….

After a long and tedious political battle (that is still raging), Washington D.C. sports betting applications are now being accepted. NFL owners long opposed the spread of legal sports gambling, citing fears that it would jeopardize the integrity of its $15 billion enterprise. Following a Supreme Court decision last year to strike down the federal ban, the league’s stance has softened. Over the last 12 months, the NFL has signed its…

Football Player Caught Betting on NFL Games

A defensive player for the Arizona Cardinals currently on injured reserve has been suspended for the rest of this season, all of next season and perhaps beyond for betting on NFL games. The league said its investigation of Josh Shaw uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised, and that no other NFL players or coaches were aware that Shaw was betting on games. “The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate…
