Fox Sports to Launch Fox Bet for Sports Gambling
Fox Sports is launching Fox Bet, and has become the first major American sports network to make a move into gambling. The purchase of a 5% stake in The Stars Group – the parent company of PokerStars – will allow Fox Sports to acquire half of the group’s US business after a decade. It marks the first time a major US broadcaster has moved directly into gambling, with the restrictive regulations previously hindering any potential tie-ups. Now the broadcaster looks to be buying into gambling and will likely use its network and sports content to cross-promote gambling across its properties….
Governor Legalizes Indiana Sports Betting
Indiana sports betting will become legal under a bill signed by the governor this week. That bill also approves the construction of two new land based casinos in the state. Republican Eric Holcomb signed off on the legislation in the final hours left to act, after lawmakers reached a deal just before the close of this year’s state legislative session. So far 2019 has been good for sports betting reform, as Indiana joins Montana and Tennessee in moving to legalize the activity. Six other states moved quickly last year following a U.S. Supreme Court decision opened the door for regulation….
Tennessee Online Sports Betting Approved
Tennessee online sports betting will not be opposed by the governor after a vote of approval last week in the state House of Representatives. The Tennessee Senate also passed legislation that would permit online gambling for sports events beginning July 1, while continuing to prohibit the practice at brick-and-mortar locations. Despite being opposed to the legalization of gambling, Gov. Bill Lee says he will allow a Tennessee sports betting bill to become law without his signature. Senate Bill 16 narrowly passed on a vote of 19 to 12, as it did in the House 58 to 37. Afterward, the House…
NCAA Sports Betting Allowed on Championship Events
The National Collegiate Athletic Association has made a major about face on their policy of not allowing sports bets. Moving forward, NCAA sports betting will be allowed on their championship events in states where sports gambling is legal and regulated. The US Supreme Court ruled against the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, or PASPA, last year. That decision paved the way for states to regulate betting on sports. Sports gambling has been regulated in eight states, with Tennessee sports betting having just been passed. The NCAA Board of Governors has been a vocal supporter of federal regulation for betting…
Louisiana & Tennessee Sports Betting Bills Advance
Legal Tennessee sports betting is coming into focus after the state’s House of Representatives passed a bill on April 24th, while its companion bill is headed for a floor vote in the Senate. The Tennessee bill has undergone a series of changes during its passage through the state House. Language permitting bricks and mortar betting has been removed, meaning Tennessee would become the first state to legalize online wagering only. Meanwhile, the state senate is set to hold a debate on a bill that would allow certain forms of sports betting in Louisiana. The bill, known as the Louisiana Sports…
Another Hope for Mobile Indiana Sports Betting
After disagreement over the possibility of remote gambling, mobile Indiana sports betting is looking more and more like a real possibility. The state conference committee is reinserting provisions for the apps into the bill as it approaches the finish line. Disagreements across chambers primarily involved non-sports aspects of the bill concerning adjustments to casino licenses and location. As expected, most of Monday’s hearing orbited around those provisions. Mobile was one of the few sticking points within the sports betting language. The Senate bill authorized statewide mobile wagering as passed, but narrow opposition in the House nearly killed the bill entirely….
