DraftKings Statements and New York Mobile Betting
We all know that there will be a ridiculously high tax on New York mobile betting. And now, the CEO of DraftKings, Jason Robins, has made an interesting statement. While speaking at the Canaccord Genuity 2021 Digital Gaming Summit, Robins said he believes the 51% tax rate will not be a problem for the company. And we think we know why, as he plainly said that players who bet for profit are “not the kind of players” DraftKings wants. Now, let’s think about that statement for a moment. What Robins seems to be saying is that the exorbitant tax rate…
IGT Sues Justice Department Over Wire Act
In an effort to gain some clarity, IGT sues Justice Department over their refusal to commit on the Federal Wire Act. And yes, this feels like a never ending story. Really, this is a good thing for our industry. Since the Department of Justice was shot down by a Federal Judge over their Wire Act opinion (and again on appeal) they have been very quiet. In fact, the DOJ has said nothing since their defeat. And that’s where the new lawsuit comes in. Since the online gambling business seems to be taking off in the United States (finally), and since…

New Revenue Record for Mississippi Sports Betting
It seems that every time we turn around another state is setting gambling revenue records, and this time it’s Mississippi sports betting that’s handling the honors. Gamblers in the state dropped over $83 on wagers in the month of October, generating more than $9 million in revenue, which was a new record high. The previous record of $8.8 million was set in October of last year and then again in September of this year. Of course, it’s no surprise that the start of football season had a lot to do with these numbers. The National Football League kicked off in…
Seminoles Sports Betting Appeal
Just days after a Federal Judge ruled the Seminoles sports betting deal with the state of Florida was “invalid”, the tribe has announced they will file an appeal. Judge Friedrich concluded that the deal violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, in that it allowed mobile bets to be accepted from anywhere in the state and not just on Tribal lands. That’s a decision which could have far reaching consequences for online gambling across America. Despite this decision, the Seminoles continued to accept sports wagers and filed a “motion for stay pending appeal” in which they allege that the ruling would…
