Attempted Robbery at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas

When will people ever learn that they can’t beat the house? Another person tried a robbery at the Cosmopolitan recently, but like so many would-be thieves before him, it didn’t work out the way he had hoped. Earlier this month, a man approached the cash cage at the popular Las Vegas destination. He handed the attendant a note which implied he had a bomb and would detonate it if he was not given $10,000 in casino chips. Specifically, the note read: “Give me 10k purple or Boom”. The attendant complied, but managed to hit the panic button to alert police….

DOJ Won’t Fight US Online Gambling Anymore

When it comes to US online gambling and poker the US Department of Justice has finally raised the white flag. They will not appeal their most recent loss in the Federal Wire Act case, and that means we could be in for an explosion of legal Internet poker across the country. This all began when the New Hampshire Lottery sued the Justice Department back in 2019 after they had changed their opinion on the Wire Act. Lawmakers to DOJ: Change Wire Act Opinion Again

The US Department of Justice is being asked to reverse their opinion on the Federal Wire Act… again. If they do so, it will be the third time their opinion has fluctuated on the matter. The DOJ used the Wire Act in an attempt to criminalize online gambling in America prior to 2011. That’s when they reversed their opinion and stated that the Act only applied to sports betting. But that wouldn’t last. When a new administration took office, the Justice Department changed opinion yet again. In 2018, they reverted back to their old notion that the Act does, in fact,…

Betting on Sports in Louisiana Signed into Law

Last week we reported that betting on sports in Louisiana needed only the governor’s signature to become law. That signature came this week. Governor John Bel Edwards actually signed a pair of bills, with the first bill regulates sports bets. The second one provides guidance for the use of the funds generated from sports bets placed in the state. The process of legalizing betting on sporting events was relatively simple and quick, as politics go. Voters in the state approved sports wagering in November of last year, just seven short months ago. Sports bets will now be allowed in 55…
