The state Casino Control Commission has given a license for Golden Nugget New Jersey. They also conditionally approved a merger of Golden Nugget with an existing special purpose acquisition company already traded on the Nasdaq. Federal regulators must still approve the merger before it becomes final. Vice President of Golden Nugget Atlantic City, Richard Liem, testified that the primary benefit of taking an online gaming entity public was access to capital. The first Native American casino in Sin City will have to wait a bit longer as Virgin Las Vegas has announced they will delay their opening. Although Virgin owns the hotel, their casino will be run by Mohegan Gaming. Virgin issued a statement on the delay via their CEO of JC Hospitality, Richard Bosworth: “Due to the continuously evolving COVID-19 situation not only in Nevada, but nationwide we have made the decision to delay the Jan. 15, 2021 opening of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The fight over online sports betting in New York has been raging for the past several years. Now, it’s back again. Lawmakers in the state are hoping that a looming budget deficit and falling revenues may finally help regulate internet sports bets. State Senator Joseph Addabbo and Assemblyman J. Call it an investment in the American market as Flutter acquires FanDuel shares which give them over a 37% stake in the company. The minority shareholder’s stake cost them over $4.1 billion and lifts Flutter’s stake in FanDuel from 57% to 95%. FanDuel CEO, Matt King, stated that the news “…affirms FanDuel’s market-leading position in the US and our meaningful growth trajectory…” FanDuel has recently partnered with the NBA’s Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies on a sports-betting partnership.
