Things were looking good for Kentucky sports betting as we reported not long ago. It had easily cleared a House committee and was looking like an easy pass in the full House, but that may be as far as it gets. State Representative Al Gentry,a co-sponsor of the bill, says there are enough votes to pass the bill in the House, but “the senate is a different story” he says. Citing his organization’s informal polling, Family Foundation spokesman Martin Cothran issued a press release Wednesday declaring the bill to be “in trouble.” It is, at the least, in escalating doubt….

We recently reported on a significant disagreement over the Oklahoma Tribal Gaming Compact. A disagreement with potentially millions of dollars at stake. So the question is, did the state’s compacts with Oklahoma gaming tribes expire on Jan. 1 or did they automatically renew? It’s a simple question that should have a simple answer. Yet, Governor Kevin Stitt, Oklahoma’s gaming tribes and more than a dozen attorneys lining up in federal court to fight over the issue. Mike Postle has finally responded to the $10 million lawsuit brought against him and acknowledging receipt his summons. A few weeks ago it was reported that several attempts had been made by lawyer Mac Verstandig to serve Postle, but that seven attempts were not successful. Postle is accused of five separate charges in the civil case, including violation of RICO statutes, fraud and unjust enrichment. Also facing court action are Stones Gambling Hall owners, Kings Casino (not related to Leon Tsoukernik’s Czech cardroom of the same name) as well as Justin Kuraitis, the Stones poker-room manager. Regulators are now estimating that rules to regulate Michigan online gambling, sports betting and fantasy sports will take a year to develop. They are now targeted a 2021 completion date based on the time it took to develop other rule sets in the past, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Gaming Control Board said. The timeline largely is the standard in other states that have legalized online gaming and sports betting, said Representative Brandt Iden, who spearheaded the online gaming package.
