Judge Rules: Wire Act Only Applies to Sports Betting
The federal judge in the New Hampshire case against the Department of Justice has ruled that the Wire Act only applies to sports betting. In doing so, he set aside the Justice Department opinion that the act applies to online gambling and poker, which some feared could put states in danger of losing their online lotteries and regulated Internet betting. Caesars Sports Betting Operations Will Consolidate
Caesars sports betting now operates 17 sports books across the United States, and Nevada, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania in particular. More Arkansas Casino Applications Ahead of Deadline
This past Thursday was the deadline for submitting Arkansas casino applications, and four more were submitted just in time. If approved, the applications would allow the land based gambling operation in Jefferson and Pope County under an amendment approved by voters approved last year. The newest applications came from the Cherokee Nation, Tri-Peaks Entertainment Group, Robert and Ruth Kehl Family and the Choctaw Nation. The state had previously received an application from Gulfside Casino Partnership. Only one application has been submitted for Jefferson County, from the Downstream Development Authority. Colorado Sports Betting Vote this November
Governor Jared Polis has signed a bill that will allow a Colorado sports betting vote this November. The measure will be put to voters and needs to be approved in order to become law. The bill was introduced on April 18th and quickly passed the state’s legislative progress in both the House and Senate, and was waiting on the signature of the Governor. Tennessee Sportsbetting Becomes Law
The Tennessee sportsbetting bill has passed into law without the signature of the Governor, Bill Lee, who made his opposition to the activity very evident. That bill will permits both online gambling and land based bets by using remote kiosks. The law goes into effect in about a month, on July 1st. The Tennessee sportsbetting bill cleared the House by a vote of 51-40 after passing through the Senate by a 20-12 vote. The Governor has been quite outspoken about his opposition to legal sports betting, but allowed the bill to pass into law. More at iGaming Business.
