Iowa Regulates Sports Betting
The state of Iowa regulates sports betting after Governor Kim Reynolds signed proposed legislation on Monday which authorizes gambling on college and professional sports. Lawmakers had approved the bill on April 22, and the proposed law was only awaiting the governor’s signature to become effective. There are now eight states in addition to Nevada that have introduced full-scale legalized sports gambling and opened sports books ever since the United States Supreme Court voted in May 2018 to allow states to pass their own laws either allowing or prohibiting betting on professional and college sports. Colorado Sports Betting Bill on Governors Desk
The bill that will regulate Colorado sports betting has passed through the state Senate and will sits on the desk of Governor Jared Polis. The bipartisan measure, will decriminalize gambling on sports as of May 1, 2020, if signed, and become a ballot measure in Colorado in November. Fox Sports to Launch Fox Bet for Sports Gambling
Fox Sports is launching Fox Bet, and has become the first major American sports network to make a move into gambling. The purchase of a 5% stake in The Stars Group – the parent company of PokerStars – will allow Fox Sports to acquire half of the group’s US business after a decade. It marks the first time a major US broadcaster has moved directly into gambling, with the restrictive regulations previously hindering any potential tie-ups. Governor Legalizes Indiana Sports Betting
Indiana sports betting will become legal under a bill signed by the governor this week. That bill also approves the construction of two new land based casinos in the state. Republican Eric Holcomb signed off on the legislation in the final hours left to act, after lawmakers reached a deal just before the close of this year’s state legislative session. So far 2019 has been good for sports betting reform, as Indiana joins Montana and Tennessee in moving to legalize the activity.
