On the day the National Football League season kicked off, four gambling companies either began offering more sports betting options in New Jersey or announced plans to do it soon. A committee of NFL owners has reportedly given NFL teams the green light to grant sponsorship rights to casinos with sportsbooks. Teams will not be allowed to advertise sportsbooks or betting sites directly, but the rules change does relax a longstanding stance that prohibited teams from associating with casinos that also offered sports betting in Las Vegas. According to SportsBusiness Daily, a “team source” said the rules change was announced during a conference call on Monday. On Wednesday, the U.S. casino industry explained how NFL Sports Betting could increase viewership, assuming the White House doesn’t end up undermining the sport completely in the years ahead. According to the American Gaming Association on Capitol Hill, the NFL’s annual revenue may increase by $2.3 billion under “widely available, legal, regulated sports betting.” The findings came from a Nielsen Sports study commissioned by the AGA.
