The long awaited launch of Florida sports betting is upon us, but there is no need for celebration. As the state is mired in lawsuits challenging its agreement with the Seminoles, claiming it violates federal law by authorizing sports wagering not on Tribal lands. Officially, the state has authorized the legal wagering on sporting events to start today, October 15th. Florida Sports Betting Legalized

It took a special session and an agreement with the Seminole Tribe, but Florida sports betting has finally and officially been passed! It is the single largest expansion of gambling in the state… but don’t get too excited, yet. Residents of the state may have a bit of a wait before any actual sports wagering takes place. Multiple Florida Sports Betting Bills Roll Out

When the new legislative sessions starts March 2nd, there will be at least three Florida sports betting bills to be considered. The proposed regulations would allow mobile and retail sports books in the state with the possibility of gaming terminals placed at specific locations. Florida Sports Betting Bill Introduced

State Senator Jeff Brandes filed a bill last week which would regulate Florida sports betting for anyone 21 years of age and older. His bill sets the guidelines for obtaining a sports betting license via the Department of Lottery, and allow licensees to offer wagers in-person or at a betting kiosk. “Sports betting is yet another area where we can enhance individual freedom,” Brandes said, according to Florida Politics. “In absence of a well regulated structure, we’ve seen a complex underground industry developed in Florida, potentially breeding habits of addiction, while robbing our government of revenue that should be collected…
