The Gambling Commission is considering a credit card ban for online betting. The regulator’s report into how to make online gambling safer said consumers “should not gamble with money that they do not have”. Betting operators have suggested credit cards are used for between 10% and 20% of deposits online. Before taking action the regulator will explore whether a ban would instead force people to use “payday” loans. Other proposed changes include improving age verification processes, banning operators from providing “free-to-play” games to children and tackling “unacceptable marketing and advertising”. UK Gambling Commission: 666Bet Stops Payments

Metro Play has moved to allay fears over its repayment process to customers by confirming to the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) it plans to make additional funds available in order to continue distributing money to players. As reported by iGaming Business, the Metro Play and 666Bet brands in March had their licence suspended by the UKGC in a move that left customers unable to access their accounts and withdraw funds. UK files new licence conditions and codes of practice with EC

Gaming Intelligence – The UK Gambling Commission has notified the European Commission (EC) of its amended Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice for gambling operators. The notification was received by the EC yesterday (May 28th), starting a standstill period which expires on August 29th. The notification relates to amendments to the Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice that reflect changes in legislation effected by the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014, which extends the 2005 Gambling Act’s jurisdiction over remote gambling. Poker Fuse –  The Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Bill has now received Royal Assent, the final stage in the UK’s legislative process that indicates that the Queen has no objections to the new law. In immediate response the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has updated its FAQ on all issues that players and operators may want to ask about the new laws. Gambling Commission Winter Olympics crackdown

BBC – Alderney’s Gambling Commission has brokered a deal to exchange suspicious gambling patterns with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) comes ahead of the Winter Olympics. The deal is part an effort to crack down on illegal gambling. An IOC spokesman said the partnership “protects major competitions from any form of manipulation, particularly those linked to betting”. The Commission’s executive director André Wilsenach said: “This MoU enables the IOC and the Commission rapidly communicate any concerns relating to the integrity of betting on Olympic events.”
