New Jersey Sports Betting Bill Says “No” to Integrity Fees

New Jersey has advanced a bill to legalize sports betting but opted not to include integrity measures requested by professional sports leagues in the US. The National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) have rallied for bills to feature clause whereby the leagues receive a share of gambling revenue. The leagues have said that they require additional funding to expand their anti-corruption efforts now that the US sports betting market is expanding. States are now permitted to legalize sports betting after the Supreme Court voted to repeal the federal 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports…

Nevada Among State Gaming Regulators Slamming “Integrity Fees”

Top gaming officials from four ideologically different states combined forces to push for a set of sports betting priorities. Leaders from Nevada, Michigan, Massachusetts and Louisiana issued a statement criticizing integrity fees and advocating “reasonable” tax structures. They also back allowing states and tribes to set their own rules without federal intervention. “As experienced gaming regulators who are part of the U.S. State Gaming Regulators Forum, we would encourage jurisdictions to establish and implement regulatory models that are not only adaptive and successful, but that remain flexible enough to be sturdy, yet encourage innovation.” Different states will enact different rules…

Sports Leagues “Integrity” Fees Unlikely

As the dust settles from last week’s historic Supreme Court decision on sports wagering — which everybody was fully expecting, by the way — we’re starting to see how plans to spread regulated betting nationwide will shake out. With the court’s repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Mississippi and Connecticut are on the verge of taking the first legal single-event sports bets outside Nevada. Look for New Jersey to be first out of the gate, maybe later this month and possibly in time for the start of the National Basketball Association Finals….
