Pennsylvania’s Online Gambling Poll

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, the nation’s leading critic of gambling on the Internet, funded a poll released Wednesday that showed nearly three-quarters of registered voters in Pennsylvania oppose online gambling. Shocking results? Not to Rep. John Payne, R-Dauphin, author of a bill to legalize online gambling. Poll results done by independent organizations are more legitimate than polls funded by someone like Adelson, the Las Vegas Sands CEO, who has a vested interest in the outcome… “I don’t hold much credibility to the survey because of the way it was done,” Payne said. The poll, conducted by Brock McCleary, president of…

Poker News Daily – A new anti-online gambling bill has been introduced in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, aiming to make all online betting illegal in the Commonwealth. Introduced by State Representative Thomas P. Murt (R – District 152), it is the polar opposite of the two pro-online gambling bills that are currently before the House. Murt’s bill is actually just a reintroduction of former State Representative Paul Clymer’s bill from last year, one which had the backing of Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson. And whereas bills that look to explicitly legalize online poker in a state are naturally…

Is fantasy football online gambling?

Reno Gazette Journal – Some of the newest incarnations of fantasy football look a lot more like gambling than intricate, outsmart-your-opponent strategy games. Since 2011, the billion-dollar fantasy market has been infused with dozens of daily and weekly games. Those games allow players to win huge prizes quickly, sometimes in one week, sometimes in just one night. With players betting thousands or even tens of thousands a night, legal experts believe it’s time to review the section of the 2006 federal law that was written specifically to protect fantasy sports from being banned the way online poker was. “There’s importance…
