A congressional committee on Thursday unveiled a draft of comprehensive legislation that would repeal the federal prohibition on sports betting and allow states to legalize online gambling. The Gaming Accountability and Modernization Enhancement Act or GAME Act, released Thursday morning by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, aims to remove federal barriers, give oversight authority to the Federal Trade Commission and outline consumer protections that states would need to have in place in order to offer legal sports betting, including fantasy sports. AGA Says Congress Must Act on Sports Betting Ban

Congressional action appears necessary if sports betting is to be legalized in Atlantic City casinos and elsewhere across the U.S. That’s the conclusion of American Gaming Association President Geoff Freeman following this week’s rejection of New Jersey’s effort to get  a court-ordered change in the 1992 act of Congress that banned most forms of sports betting. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling invalidated a 2014  New Jersey law that would have allowed sports betting at casinos and racetracks. Opposition to New Jersey Sports Betting Agenda

Chris Christie was in the news last week because of a radio interview he did regarding New Jersey sports betting, as they’ve made the decision to try and legalize the activity. Sitting in as a special co-host on the Boomer and Carton in the Morning show in New York City, Christie suggested that it was ridiculous that only Nevada is allowed to offer single game sports betting and that the law should be changed to treat all states equally.
