ESPN Bet Changes Partners to DraftKings
The partnership between Penn Entertainment and ESPN Bet will end nearly eight years ahead of schedule, marking a major shift in the U.S. sports betting landscape. Originally launched in late 2023 as a 10-year, $1.5 billion agreement, ESPN Bet was intended to combine ESPN’s massive sports media reach with Penn’s gaming expertise. The collaboration struggled to meet expectations, capturing only around three percent of the national betting market, far below its initial targets. ESPN Bet Coming This Fall
Penn Entertainment has just reached a 10-year agreement to license ESPN Bet here in America. Under the agreement, Penn will rebrand Barstool Sportsbook into the ESPN Bet brand this fall. The deal strengthens ESPN’s ties to the gambling industry, which may seem odd given that their parent company, Disney, had seemed to oppose gambling expansion over the years. However, Disney acquired a stake in DraftKings via Fox Entertainment assets back in 2019.
