2020 WSOP Main Event Set for December
Despite a raging pandemic, officials have been able to arrange an amazing situation to play the 2020 WSOP Main Event. To pull this off they have set up an online-live hybrid for both domestic and international play. In America, the tourney will take place on the WSOP.com website for players in New Jersey or Nevada. A single Day 1 flight will take place on December 13th, with Day 2 the following Monday until there is a final table of nine. Poker Pro Gavin Smith Passes Away Unexpectedly
Canadian poker champion Gavin Smith passed away in his sleep last night. News of the loss came today from his home in Houston. He was 50 years old. There were very few details given about the circumstances of his death. Smith, born September 4, 1968, rose to poker prominence during the online poker boom several years ago. He went by the nickname “birdguts” and finished his poker career with more than $5.5 million in live tournament earnings. California Tribes Sue Card Rooms
Two California Tribes sue card rooms in the state over “house-banked” games. The Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians and the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians announced Friday that they have filed a lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court against several cardrooms located in Southern California. “I would like to make it clear, we are not challenging the right of a business to operate, but rather the non-compliance with California law,” said Bo Mazzetti, Chairman of the Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians. “If the California Department of Justice and the Gambling Control Commission would have enforced the current laws that…
Japan May Ban Poker and Sports Betting from Casinos
The ever-tightening restrictions being touted for Japan’s integrated resorts could see skill games including poker and sports betting banned from casino floors. According to national newspaper The Mainichi, a list of recommendations submitted to the government by the Expert Committee last month includes stringent guidelines on the types of games that should be allowed in the nation’s casinos with key features being that they can be easily controlled by the operator, can only be played at casinos and, most significantly, are based on chance.
