California Asks Tribal Casinos to Delay Open

The Governor of California has asked three Tribal casinos to consider delaying their scheduled opening while the battle against the Coronavirus pandemic is still being fought. Many tribal casinos in the state closed in March still remain closed through the end of this May at least. However, three properties near San Diego have made plans to reopening in the next few days.

“I urge tribal governments to reconsider and instead make those determinations based on how they align with the current local public health conditions and the statewide stage of reopening,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. In a letter to tribal leaders, he reminded a group of Native American tribes that are planning to reopen their casinos in the coming days that more than 75,000 Californians have tested positive for COVID-19 in 54 of the state’s 58 counties and the numbers are increasing.

As originally reported by Los Angeles Times, Governor Newsom urged Tribal leaders to reconsider their reopening plans as the pandemic poses a continuing threat to public health. You can read more about the plans of the casinos near San Diego at Yogo Net.
