Mobile and in-play betting and gaming technology solutions provider Cantor Gaming and Wagering has reportedly filed a lawsuit against William Hill in Nevada over claims that the rival poached trade secrets and potential clients.
According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper, the action filed early this month in Clark County District Court alleges that William Hill acquired privileged information belonging to Cantor Gaming after purchasing Brandywine Bookmaking LLC in 2011.
Brandywine Bookmaking, which was established by Joseph Asher in 2008 just over a year after he left as Managing Director for Cantor Gaming, operates 16 sportsbooks in Nevada under the Lucky’s brand alongside one on the Caribbean island of St Kitts and was acquired by London-based William Hill for $15.7 million.
The lawsuit from Las Vegas-based Cantor Gaming alleges that William Hill, via the acquisition of Brandywine Bookmaking along with the subsequent appointment of Asher as Chief Executive Officer for its operations in the United States, ‘has participated in, and plans to benefit from, Asher’s usurpation of business ideas and opportunities that belong to’ Cantor Gaming.
“[Cantor is] informed and believes that the William Hill defendants have acted in concert with Asher and Brandywine for this unlawful objective,” read the lawsuit.
