Challenge to Florida Seminole Gaming Compact

The ink isn’t even dry of the Seminole Gaming Compact with the state of Florida, but already there are political challenges being raised. That agreement paves the way for sports betting in the state. But the mayor of Miami Beach has voiced his concerns that the agreement is corrupted, and he wants the Federal Government to kill the deal. The U.S. Department of the Interior must approve the agreement since it involves a Native American tribe. And the Miami Beach mayor believes that the new compact between the Seminoles and the state has been corrupted and hijacked by politicians with…

Sports Betting in Connecticut Approved

Sports betting in Connecticut, including online betting, has been approved and signed by the Governor… but now we must wait for approval by the Federal Government. But why is Federal approval needed? Because the deal involves the states Tribal Gaming interests. The Mohegan Sun, operated by the Mohegan Tribe, and Foxwoods Casino, operated by Mashantucket Pequot, have “exclusive rights” to many forms of gambling in the state. And since a deal needed to be reached between the state and the Tribes, now the Bureau of Indian Affairs must approve the expansion. One interesting aspect of this agreement is that online…

Nebraska Sports Betting and Gambling Expansion

Congratulations are in order as Nebraska sports betting has become the latest to join the regulated market! And while we are happy that betting on sports continues to expand, we cannot help but be a little disappointed that wagers will not be allowed online. Governor Pete Ricketts signed the legislation, which not only legalized betting on sports in the state, but also allowed for the expansion of casino gambling. Horse tracks in the state will now be permitted to offer “Las Vegas style” games, which we hope includes slots, craps, roulette, blackjack, and video poker. Initially, the Governor was opposed…
