777-Room Las Vegas Casino and Hotel Planned for Downtown
A planned downtown Las Vegas casino will feature a 459-foot-tall, 777-room hotel tower and 117,740 square feet of gaming space where the Las Vegas Club once stood on Fremont Street, according to documents submitted with the city. Derek Stevens, owner of The D casino downtown, is listed as owner and chief executive officer of the 18 Fremont project, a reference to the property address. According to documents filed with the Las Vegas Planning Commission, the property will have a 1,526-space parking garage across Main Street that will be connected to the casino via a sky bridge. New Casino on Vegas Strip: Monte Carlo is now Park MGM
The Monte Carlo is no more. The 22-year-old Strip resort today was renamed the Park MGM. The transformation, which is ongoing, began with the opening of the Park Theater in December 2016 and has been undertaken while the property remains open. “Today is one of the many milestones in the transformation,” said Patrick Miller, the property’s president and chief operating officer. “The first milestone was Park Theater at the end of 2016. Today’s milestone just marks the name change and, really, there’s no Monte Carlo components left. All the guest rooms are under Park MGM rooms. The casino is Park…
Virginia Getting New Casino and Horse Track
Following a lengthy history of staunch opposition, the state of Virginia seems to be experiencing a shift when it comes to casino-style gambling. The Pamunkey Indian tribe has recently disclosed its plans to build a $700 million casino and resort in partnership with Yarbrough Capital and is currently eyeing a 600-acre property in New Kent County, located just 30 miles east of Richmond. Soon after, another announcement came on the heels of the Pamunkey project: Chicago-based company Revolutionary Racing has struck a $20 million deal to buy Colonial Downs, a closed down horseracing track located just minutes away. Gambling laws…
Report: FOBT Stakes Will be Cut to £2
The maximum FOBT stakes stake for these so-called ‘crack cocaine’ gambling machines is set to be slashed to £2 following publication of a report due within weeks, it emerged today. Sports Minister Tracey Crouch will press ahead with the dramatic reform later this month, it was reported. The plan is controversial because ending huge stakes played on Fixed Odds Betting Terminals will leave a £400million hole in gambling tax revenues. But the Department for Culture Media and Sport is pressing on to tackle the problems of gambling addiction and money laundering. A Whitehall source told the Sunday Mirror: ‘We’re going…
Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun Threaten Slot Revenue Over Sports Betting
Connecticut’s two largest tribal casinos, Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun, are threatening to cut off slot machine revenue from their casino resorts if sports betting is authorized statewide. In a letter to House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz, D-Berlin, and other legislative leaders, the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes said a bill before the General Assembly to legalize sports betting would violate the compact between the tribes and the state. That means the state’s 25 percent take from slot revenue at the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos — some $250 million a year — could be cut off unless a deal is struck…
Wynn Boston Harbor Casino Project Will Definitely Change Its Brand
After a recent hearing at the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, Wynn Boston Harbor President Robert DeSalvio told the press that the company will “definitely” rebrand the project. When asked about what the new brand of the towering integrated resort will be, DeSalvio didn’t reveal any details, only saying that it is “under active consideration right now”. But some recent internet domain name acquisitions made by the company point to the potential use of the “Encore” brand, at least in relation to this project. According to the paper, Wynn Resorts Holdings has registered at least nine internet domains using this brand, including…
