Pro-online gaming group launches ad campaign

Politico – Billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson’s mission to ban Internet gambling just got a major opponent — a coalition backed by MGM International and other Washington powerhouses. The newly minted Coalition for Consumer and Online Protection is going up Wednesday with an initial three-week, $250,000 online and print ad buy to campaign against a federal online gambling ban. The ad buy is focused predominately on the Washington, D.C., market, but also will have presence in Nevada. The coalition has also hired some heavy hitters to help them make their case. Former Rep. Bitcoiners Going to Jail for Money Laundering

Vice – BitInstant CEO Charlie Shrem, along with alleged co-conspirator Robert Faiella, was arrested by federal authorities last week for allegedly laundering more than $1 million worth of bitcoins. This is a tiny amount compared to the largest drug-and-terrorism money laundering case ever. Yet when British bank HSBC was found guilty in 2012 of laundering billions, the firm paid a fine of $1.9 billion. Authories made no arrests, and HSBC still turned a $13.5 billion profit that year. Rolling Stone’s Matt Taibbi detailed the crimes HSBC helped fund, including “tens of thousands of murders” and laundering money for Al Qaeda…

Venture Beat – CashBet has raised $1.7 million in angel funding for a platform that enables developers to build real-money gambling into their social and mobile games. The company aims to run a business that will allow more companies to bridge the game between the multibillion-dollar markets of mobile games and online gambling. The Oakland, Calif.-based company received the money from FWH Holdings and private investors, and it will use it to develop its online gambling platform. CashBet can do this because the Alderney Gambling Control Commission in the British Channel Islands awarded online gambling licenses to CashBet, allowing it to register…

Wisconsin next for online gambling?

Poker News – Online poker is currently generating tax revenue for three U.S. states – Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey – so it’s only natural that other states have taken notice. California and Pennsylvania are among the states currently considering iGaming, while others like Iowa are adopting a wait-and-see approach. Another state that has shown interest in the space is Wisconsin, albeit in the form of the sovereign Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians through the Tribal Internet Gaming Alliance (TIGA), an alliance of Indian Tribes working collectively to bring internet gaming to Indian Country within the…
