William Hill Ready for American Sports Betting

When the Vegas Golden Knights score their second goal against the Edmonton Oilers—a nifty midair redirection of a shot from the blue line—the foghorn blasts and chants of “Go Knights go!” take a couple of minutes to die down. It’s a Thursday night in February at the new, 20,000-seat T-Mobile Arena on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip. “They have cost us a lot of money,” says Joe Asher, who’s watching in a suite above center ice in blue jeans and a half-zip fleece. Asher, chief executive officer of William Hill US, oversees the largest collection of sportsbooks…

PGA Supports Regulated US Sports Betting

The PGA Tour would welcome legalized and regulated US sports betting on its competitions if the Supreme Court overturns the federal ban that prohibits such bets in most states. “You have keep in mind that betting is happening right now, with illegal black markets and offshore betting, and we don’t have any exposure to what is happening,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan told USA TODAY Sports in his first public comments on the issue. “If it’s legalized and regulated, you get to a point where you can better ensure the integrity of your competitions. You can provide adequate protection for…

DraftKings Looks for Sports Betting Partners in New Jersey

DraftKings has confirmed that it has spoken with various casinos in New Jersey about partnerships for offering sports betting in the US state. However, DraftKings also said that it has no immediate announcements about a deal in New Jersey and made no suggestions that its plans could extend to other states. In recent months, the firm has…

Betting on sports would become legal at gambling facilities throughout Louisiana – even at bars and restaurants – under legislation approved Tuesday by a Senate committee. Senate Bill 266 would authorize gambling on sports at the Harrah’s New Orleans casino, the 15 floating casinos, the four racetrack casinos, the 200 video poker truck stop casinos and the more than 1,000 bars and restaurants with video poker machines. The legislation, approved by the Judiciary B Committee, now moves to the full Senate for consideration. SB266 becomes the first measure this year to win approval before a legislative committee that would clearly…

Legal Sports Betting in West Virginia by Summer?

Alan Larrick, West Virginia Lottery Director, revealed that he’s confident that sports betting could be working at the state’s five casinos within 90 days of a favorable ruling from the US Supreme Court. The state is discussing the possibility in order to be ready in case the federal ban on sports betting gets lifted. “In a perfect world, we could hopefully be up and running by late summer,” Larrick said after Wednesday’s Lottery Commission meeting. He added that the Lottery is working as if the court has already given the approval for sports betting, and that the five casinos in…

DraftKings Hires Hurley to Run Their Sportsbook

Daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings has hired a “Head of Sportsbook” to deal with its aspirations in the sports betting space, the company announced on Monday. DraftKings also noted that it is opening an office in New Jersey. That’s in addition to existing offices in Boston and New York. The company started indicating its interest in the sports wagering space in 2017. The new hire obviously escalates those plans. DraftKings CEO Jason Robins talked about sports wagering just a few days ago. The potential for legalization of sports wagering around the US looms with the pending New Jersey sports betting…
