Don’t hold your breath, but lawmakers have introduced another California sports betting bill. The last one didn’t go so well, but a recent change in the state’s gambling landscape presents a fresh stage for 2019. The bill’s introduction comes in the wake of a failed private attempt to garner signatures in support of a referendum. This proposal, however, would be subject to two-thirds approval from the legislature before a majority vote at the ballot box in November 2020. New Jersey sports betting has surpassed Nevada for the first time, as more money was bet there than the sports books in Las Vegas. New Jersey took in over $318 million in action, narrowly passing the books in Nevada at $317 million. Earlier, there was potential that the celebration in the Garden State would be short-lived, with Trenton lawmakers and Gov. Phil Murphy at the brink of a government shutdown that would have impacted racetracks, sportsbooks and casinos. Maine Sports Betting Bill Advances

Lawmakers have given the green light to Maine sports betting legislation. The state Senate voted 19-15 while the House approved the bill unanimously which would allow residents over the age of 21 bet on professional and college sports competitions. Bets could be placed either at physical locations – such as existing casinos or off-track betting parlors – or online via the mobile apps that account for the majority of sports gambling nationwide.
