Defining The Status Of Online Poker Is Proving To Be Difficult

Zemanta Related Posts ThumbnailSponsored Story from Wager Web – The war to get online gambling and specifically, online poker, recognized is being fought on both sides and neither is giving an inch. People have been trying to decide whether or not it is a game that takes skill, or whether it is luck and that would go a long way in being able to put a definition on it. Right now, neither side seems to be winning. If you’re a gambling man, the betting odds indicate that this doesn’t look like it will be decided anytime soon.

There are some that want to see online poker recognized and one United States representative from Texas has put forth The Internet Poker Freedom Act of 2013. The skill argument was also brought forth in a federal case, and if it isn’t a game of skill, then online poker should be considered a game of chance, which is what the anti-poker people are really going after.

Those people think that poker is gambling and that the skill argument really doesn’t matter one way or the other, and that is what they have been trying to prove. Lawyers have been dispersed to battle both sides of the coin and no one seems to be gaining any traction in the courtroom. The anti-poker people have called online poker, “loophole gambling” and they have even tried to include fantasy sports in that as well. On the other side, pro-poker advocates say that skill does matter when defining what is gambling and what isn’t, because if that’s the case, then sports like football will also have to be outlawed.

If anything, the laws may be murkier than ever now and this is a battle that is going to be waged for a long time coming. Look for both sides to ante up as things heat up.

In the meantime, at least there’s some good action in the sportsbook with the NFL odds up now that football is back!
